Dr A.K. Meena was an extraordinary individual and a companion to all. She was known to have a special touch and love towards patients and individuals around her. She always had a pleasant smile on her face.

She was born in Tamilnadu on 1st Jan 1962. She started her medical education in 1985, pursued her MBBS and MD from Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad followed by DM in Neurology in Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad in 1993.

With her passion for medical sciences combined with her kind heart, Dr A. K. Meena dedicated 26 years of her life to the service of poor and needy at the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, one of the premier government institutes of India. In 1994 she joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and rose to the level of Professor of Neurology in 2005 and eventually headed one of the units. She had a special interest in neuromuscular, neuroimmunology and mitochondrial diseases.

She authored more than 116 original articles in national and international journals, 23 book chapters and one book on peripheral neuropathies. She had several review articles, award papers and posters to her credit. She was the organizing secretary of NERVECON, the National Peripheral Neuropathy Conference held twice in Hyderabad. She held several official posts which included being adviser of MS Society, Foundation for Neuromuscular diseases of Hyderabad, treasurer for society of mitochondrial research and medicine, external advisory board member for PhD committee in NIMHANS, member of GBS classifications group, member of PNS, AANEM, IAN and NSI Society, founder member and Treasurer Nerve and Muscle society and Chairman of IAN subsection Neuromuscular diseases.

On the 14th of January 2020, she suddenly suffered a massive cardiac arrest while attending a meeting in Queensquare hospital, London and after fighting a brief battle with the illness, expired on 17th January 2020, leaving the entire neurologic community in a state of shock and disbelief. Dr Meena's life, in summary, was a passionate chronicle of complete dedication to service, teaching and research in the field of neurology. She will forever be remembered and missed by her friends, family, students and patients.
