At the Jantar Mantar, the astronomical observatory located in New Delhi, is also the Rama Yantra. It was used to find out the zenith distance (the highest point, way or level reached by a celestial body on its daily apparent path around a given point of observation) and the altitude of the sun. It consists of a pair of cylindrical structures, open to the sky, each with a pillar at the centre. The pillar and walls are of equal height, which is also equal to the radius of the structure. The interior (floor and walls) of the Rama Yantra is inscribed with scales indicating the angles of altitude and the azimuth (the direction of a celestial object from the observer, expressed as the angular distance from the north or south point of the horizon to the point at which a vertical circle passing through the object intersects the horizon). This photograph is taken with a Canon EOS 1 300D on aperture priority mode, f/14, with exposure time 1/15Sec, ISO 100, FL 20
